Dr. Cat founded House Vets for House Pets in 2001, and has been the beating heart of our clinic for more than twenty years. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Zoology from Howard University before moving on to earn her DVM degree from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Cat had a childhood love of both science and animals, which dovetailed nicely into a career in veterinary medicine—in fact, she has worked in veterinary hospitals since she was 14! She is devoted to helping people provide the best care possible for their pets and strives to alleviate the anxiety and worries that often come with pet parenthood.
Dr. Cat is a member of numerous professional groups including the Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association, Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Black DVM Network, and the National Association of Black Veterinarians. She is passionate about community service and encouraging education, and has acted as a mentor and guide to countless students over the years who have then gone on to be professors, practice owners, scientists, and sometimes clients themselves.
When she’s not at the clinic, Dr. Cat loves comedy shows, dancing, and art in all its forms. Ever active, her hobbies include running and Brazilian Jiu jitsu, as well as all things crafty. Dr. Cat’s family includes husband Kemal, who is a practicing attorney in addition to having a PhD in bioinorganic chemistry. Their two sons grew up running the halls of the clinic, and while they definitely inherited Dr. Cat’s love of animals, they eventually went on to have non-veterinary related careers. Furry family members include clumsy but loveable standard poodle Prosper, and a protective (and aptly named) mixed breed pup named Angel.
